It's a New Year

Well it has been a while since I last wrote, but the holidays were here and Mom came up to visit.  Between my mother and Vito, I was quite busy.  But the New Year is here and I believe it is going to be a good year.  Am I still pumped up about loosing?  Yes, definitely.

Before I went off of my diet prior to the holidays, I had actually lost 15 pounds.  During Christmas, I was really concerned about not over doing it and splurging too much, as I really didn't want to put that weight back on, and I can gain fast.  On the other hand, I wanted to treat myself to some goodies, and let's face it, Christmas only comes around once a year, and we never know if everyone will be around the next Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, we all went to my neighbors house, Eileen and Lou Conte for the traditional Italian "7 Seafoods Feast".  As usual there was so much food, and especially sweets!  But I must say, I was so very good, as I ate the things I wanted, but was very careful to NOT overeat.  As for the sweets, although it would have been easy to just pig out on them, I was really selective and only ate the few things that I really have been waiting for all year.

Christmas Day morning, we had some Italian pastries and champagne, which has become our own tradition.  There again, I was cautious not to over do it and only ate half portions and really left most of the pastries to Mom and Vito.  Now the champagne I drank!  It was good too and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I had baked cookies as well, so the two of them would have something homemade, but not lots.  I also wanted to be sure I had something in the house should anyone drop by.  I can't expect everyone else to do as I do.  But ironically, there was plenty left over, which went to feed the homeless.  The few sweets left are going to be added to our homeless stash for this Sunday.  Now the only thing I am not giving away, is Vito purchased Neuhaus Belgium Chocolates for me and I absolutely treasure them.  They have to be the best chocolates ever!  I did have quite a few and the rest I will save for my "2 weeks off diet".  I intend the make the rest last and also that will give me a real treat to look forward to.

With all of that being said, I gained not quite two pounds over the holidays and I started back on my diet on the 2nd of January and I have already lost the two pounds I had gained.  Now I will do this again for 2 more weeks and on the 17th, I am going to take two weeks off again.  This works well for me I believe.  Am I happy?  You're darn tooten' I am!

By the way, my current weight is 169 pounds.

TIP:  To curb appetite and keep from over eating during a meal, eat a hand full of non-salted or lightly salted peanuts about thirty minutes before you eat.  It will give you much needed protein and will curb your appetite when you eat your meal.

Vito gave me an iPhone for Christmas as well, and I have been having so much fun with it; what a great gift.  It has iTunes right on the phone and I have been playing some of my favorite music which has also encouraged me to dance, which I have been doing a little every day.  Not only is it good exercise, but it is a mood elevator as well, and just makes me feel good.  I also downloaded some really good meditations as well as I daily yoga class.

All in all I feel great about the New Year.  I have not made any resolutions, as I think it is bad to make them because we often can't keep them.  That is like making a promise to someone and breaking it.  That's bad, and the only difference is the promise is too yourself.  So I decided not to do that just in case, but I did promise myself to try to succeed and get to where I want to be in all things healthy.  That is all I can do, except for one more thing, and that is to believe in myself.  That I do.

Happy New Year to anyone who reads this.
