This is a great idea! Since turning 61, I've been using a new "filter" for some of my decision making. What will have any lasting relevance when (and if) I turn 70--getting to my desk before 10:00 a.m. or an hour on the treadmill & stationary bike? It's interesting how my automatic response is that I have to get to work--prioritizing that over my health and well-being.

So, I don't know if I'll ever lose any weight, but I'm walking and pedaling and paying attention to what I eat (and drink), when, and why.

TIP: I got a pedometer, which was a great first reality check. I work at home, sitting in front of a computer. And, in the winter, when my garden in sleeping, I discovered I am only taking between 500 and 700 steps a day. I've read that to be really fit, it takes about 10,000 steps. Just half an hour on my treadmill got me up to 4000 steps. So, on a workout day, I'm up to 5,000 to 5,500 steps. My short term goal is 6,000 steps and higher intensity on the treadmill and bike.

Re Turkey Day -- our lovely, fattening dinner was interrupted half way through when my 89 year old mother-in-law slumped at the table and was unresponsive. Got the paramedics here quickly. Oxygen seemed to partially revive her and off we went in the ambulance. Spent the holiday (til Sat night) at the hospital while she underwent testing to rule out stroke, seizure, etc. With ultimate determination that she was basically dehydrated and that, combined with low heart rate (due to medication) was the most likely culprit.

I've never jumped up from a holiday dinner and left the food on the plate half-finished. Tough way to save a few calories.

  1. Glad to see you join my blog Sis. I think it is a good thing to do and if it helps anyone, it is all worth it. It certainly will help me, as I feel a responsibility to continue something I have started. Feel free to let anyone you think may be interested know about the blog as well.

Sorry to hear you had such a terrible experience for Thanksgiving. On the other hand, I am so glad she was with loved ones at the time to help. God only knows what the outcome would have been otherwise. But that is no way to eat less at Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the tip. I had a pedometer that bit the dust, but you are correct, I need to purchase another one.
